Our two Carolina rig rods are designed to make throwing those long leaders and heavy weight much EASIER. Both are long rods(7'3") with longer rear grips for total, two-handed casting control. Distance is important because no matter how good the rod, you can never quite reach that outside edge where the bait and the fish always seem to be. When the action moves close to shore anyone can be in the zone, but it takes a special rod design to get you out there where they're out of everyone else's reach. The secret is a faster "RECOVERY RATE." The faster a rod can recover from a loaded (flexed) position to a "quiet" (straight) position, the less line slap (friction) you experience. Less friction means higher line speeds resulting in longer casts. It's the one factor that increases casting DISTANCE more than any other, except maybe the size of lure you're fishing. We designed them primarily for trout and panfish, but they satisfy a variety of different APPLICATIONS like, small in-line spinners for bass; darts and light jigs for shad; small baits for bonefish; spoons for sea trout; even spinners for silver salmon if you're willing to give it a shot. Now, don't get us wrong... they aren't like our spin jig rods. They are more of a LIGHT-DUTY all-around spinning rod with relatively soft butt sections and light tips. None are rated for over 10-pound line and most are in the 4- to 6-pound test range. If you're fishing in tight quarters or really small creeks, we'd suggest the shorter models, but if you frequent larger streams or ponds and lakes, we'd recommend the longer rods because they protect light line better and give you increased casting DISTANCE and a longer, more effective hook set.
